Is History Doomed to Repeat Itself?
The last time a "new world order" presumed superiority over the citizens of the world, war consumed our planet. In the 1940s the lockstep mentality of the Aryan nation slaughtered Jews, Christians, anyone not deemed "pure" by the "master race." The world rebelled but not until hundreds of thousands died horribly in Nazi death camps.
Is history doomed to repeat itself? Al Qaeda believes Islam is the only true religion and is dedicated to forcing the worldwide adoption of Islam. Their aim is not missionary. They do not attempt to persuade. They are dedicated to forcing acceptance of a very narrow view of Islam upon the diverse peoples of the world. Their aim is to create a Muslim world governed by the holy Islamic code Sharia. "Unworthies" who refuse to convert will be branded as non-Muslim, forced to wear badges identifying them as such, be heavily taxed, and treated as second class citizens. Does the world not see the parallels? Must hundreds of thousands die again before the world wakes up? Al Qaeda is more than a terrorist threat. Where Al Qaeda succeeds, freedom will die.
It is interesting that the word "Aryan" means prehistoric speaker of Indo-Iranian language. Though perverted by the Nazis to their own meaning of Nordic superiority, the Sanskrit derivation means "noble." Al Qaeda's belief that they are the "chosen," the "only," the "holy" seems rooted in prehistory but is really only a new perversion. I do not believe that the many followers of Islam worldwide believe in forcing Al Qaeda's narrow, reprehensible viewpoint down the throats of the world community. But if the world community continues to fail to act, the choice may no longer be ours.
Complacency nearly kept America from joining World War II. Had the Japanese not attacked, we would have been content to stay safe within our borders while the Nazis wrecked havoc across the rest of the world. Think how different the world would be today if we had not joined the world community and defeated the spreading Nazi evil. It seems this lesson is lost on many in the world community. Too many nations are choosing to ignore Al Qaeda's threat. Their politicians are unwilling to spend their resources and their soldiers' lives to protect the world --and their own citizens -- from this evil that is invading our world. I hope they wake up before history repeats itself and it is too late. Replacing "Heil Hitler" with "Allah Be Praised" will not make the loss of freedom any more palatable.
