US Spared Terrorist Attack Today
It appears that the US was sparred a massive planned terror attack today. Police in Britain have arrested a group of 21 people in London and Birmingham.
It appears that these terrorists had planned on carrying on board several Continental planes, explosives in their carry on baggage. As a result, all liquids, even baby formula, was blocked from being brought on board outgoing planes today causing massive tie ups in London's Heathrow airport. The US has also raise its threat level for airline travel as a result.
The plot was to blow up several airliners simultaneously as they were headed to the US. Now whether that meant over the ocean, or into buildings in NY or Washington DC, we won't know until more details are revealed over the next several hours and possibly days.
One of Al Qaeda's hallmarks is synchronized bombing, but there are now many copycats using this same technique that we can not be sure that this was an attack sponsored by Osama Bin Laden's network. We may find that this latest thwarted threat was Al Qaeda sponsored as more details are revealed.
Al Qaeda's focus on the US is in part to punish the US and its people for sponsoring Israel. Al Qaeda has published numerous communiques stating that as the US sends arms to Israel and that the arms are bought with taxpayer dollars, that all American citizens, including women and children, are therefore culpable and not protected by any Islamic law. Through mass destruction and violence, Al Qaeda believes that they will exert enough pressure on the US government to halt support of Israel. Unfortunately they are mistaken.
The US support of Israel is fundamental and will not be stopped as the US considers Israel an important ally in the Middle East, a refuge for the Jewish people from the Holocaust, as well as a territory sanctioned by treaty and the UN, and as a strategic partner in the Middle East.
When has the US ever abolished a relationship with a country to bow to another's pressure. I can think of no other time in history! I believe that Al Qaeda has miscalculated America's resolve on protecting of Israel and also the resolve of the American people to chart their own course even in the face of great obstacles.
America is at its best when threatened. America will never bow to Al Qaeda's demented demands nor will they abandon Israel because of Al Qaeda's threats or even violent attacks.
