Radical Islamic Extremism, The Defining Issue Of Our Time
Last night I agreed with President George Bush on several things. Some things I did not agree with. One point that I think he clarified elegantly was that Islamic extremist terrorism is the defining issue of our time. I believe that this is the new great struggle that the world is facing, and not just one that the United States faces alone. I believe that Islamic extremists are people who hide behind a veil of religiosity and are pushing an evil agenda that is in direct contradiction to the true message of their own religion. How we handle these issues are defining for us as Americans and as world citizens. It is black and white, will we rise to the challenge or will we hide from it, and let their agenda over take us and change our world forever.
Much as the cold war defined the generation previously, the war on Islamic extremist terrorism will historically be analyzed and dissected. But now as we move through this time, we are confronted with difficult choices on issues of personal freedom, justice, and the protection of the innocents in society. This issue is more than the push of a religious agenda, it is a fight for our very ways of life and for the right to not live everyday free from fear.
