What Is Islam Hiding Behind Now?
What are they trying to hide? Book publishers in Turkey are rewriting Western classics to suit their own Islamic interpretations. On returning from his quest, Pinocchio now exclaims to Geppetto, "Thanks be to Allah, I am a real boy!" In The Three Musketeers, D'Artagnan can't visit Aramis because his friend is in the company of religious men, having just converted to Islam. What does Islam have to hide that its practitioners must lie to school children?
If a world converted to Islam will be a paradise, as many Imam tell the faithful, then why is such deceit necessary? It smacks of the same propaganda perpetuated in Muslim religious schools where historical facts are rewritten to an Islamic point of view. Many Muslim children in the Middle East are taught that the West wants to kill them, that the West wants to annihilate Islam, that the West is the great evil against which the Muslim faithful have heroically fought for centuries. Battle outcomes are fictionalized, Islamic contributions to the world are plucked out of thin air, the death camps of the Holocaust blink out of existence, terrorists are revered as heroes. Is there any sliver of reality in the Islamic world view?
You would expect that educated Muslims in a modern country, which is what I would assume of book publishers in Turkey, would realize that the benefits of Islam should be able to stand alone. So why is all this propping up necessary. Can it be that outside the realm of fiction there are no benefits to Islam?

What are you talking about!!!! Listen, Christians have done this kind of stuff for the last 2000 years. What do you think all those Popes did back in the middle ages in rewriting and reinterpreting the Bible to suite their particular views. And what about the intellectual tyranny where men of science and women with intellegence were burned at the stake, as heretics and witches, all in the name of Jesus. What about the Spanish Inquisition and the whole sale killing and/or forced Christian conversion of Jews and Moors. Hmmmm, maybe present day Islam is coming into its own and going through the same phase. For you to doubt that Islam has any meaning or relevance is to say the same about Christianity 1000 years ago. Does that make Christianity any more viable, just because they made the same sins earlier? You cannot vilify a religion becuase on the basis of what fundamentalists do. I don't see you trashing the Kansas School Boards who want to rewrite school texts to say that Evolutoin does not exist! Get a grip!

Hmm a rather rabid point of view Straigh Talk, but an interesting point of view none the less.
I think that Secret Citizen is speaking about the Madrasses that are used as private Islamic schools worldwide that do have a very unusual curriculum. It is true that the school books are changed to reflect a specific point of view and do teach things that are contrary to historical facts.
I think that the big point that you glossed over while rabidly pointing out historical trends of discrimination by Christians against Muslims is that we are currently in the information age.
No school, teacher, parent or student should be taught a point of view or historical information that is not correctly founded on real events. Secret Citizen is clearly not speaking about schools from the Middle Ages but schools of today.
To teach that the Holocaust did not exist or that a war was won by another country when historically it was not, is simply wrong and irresponsible in today's age.
I believe that parents can couch a child's education imprinting their own religious views, but to change the actual history is flagrantly wrong. To print it in school books giving it authority in a child's mind is totally wrong. Doing such continues to breed hatred and intolerance and should not be tolerated or condoned by any community.
