A Reader' Comments on "Do You Think There Should Be Sanctions Against Iran?"

I was just reviewing comments on posts and saw this on on the post "Do You Think There Should Be Sanctions Against Iran?" and wanted to pull it out and point it out to you.

Sanctions are an option, but Iran is not getting much from us anyway and I would be very surprised if the Europeans, Chinese, and Russians actually obey the sanctions.

Iran will continue with its program [nuclear program] and the best way to handle this is to realize that is what will happen and then try to decide what the plan will be. You will not intimidate Iran into not making "the bomb", just like you can't with North Korea. They are smart people and will find a way to do it. I know many Iranian and Korean scientists and they are as smart or smarter than US scientists. If we can build a bomb, I am confident that eventually they will. The question is how do we come to peace with these people so they do not feel threatened such that they feel they need to use it.

Excellent point made and thanks for the comment! Unfortunately in the world community, there are many political players namely France and Russia who are strong trade partners with Iran. To think that they would allow sanctions and end up with lines at the pump would just about start riots in their own countries.

I also do not think that you can stem the flow of nuclear knowledge as well. Iran has reasons for wanting to be a world player and having a nuclear deterrent is just one of the pieces to joining "the club".

The US has taken a stance with Iran that is ostrich-like. It is time now to start full diplomatic relations with Iran and work with the government on some of these very hot topics and not stick our heads in the sand that Iran is not a rising star in the Middle East region.
