Shocking! Hamas Will NOT Recognize Israel!

I'm shocked! Absolutely stunned! Hamas will NOT lay down their weapons and will NOT recognize Israel.

"I tell you with all honesty, we will not recognize Israel, we will not recognize Israel, we will not recognize Israel," Hamas leader and Palestinian prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh said to thunderous applause from supporters in Gaza City, according to a New York Times article today.
Like I said, I am in total shock! I don't know where in the world the international community got the idea that Hamas leaders would ever denounce their core philosophy of hate in the interest of peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people. Hating Israel is a way of life for Hamas. It is their raison d'etre, the cause that unites them, the passion that inflames them.

During the rally, Haniyeh invited Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the rival Fatah movement, back to the bargaining table to resume talks on a national unity government. Hah! How can there ever be national unity in Palestine if Hamas unilaterally rejects any consideration of the key condition to world support. Why would President Abbas even bother to rejoin the party?

Abbas and Fatah have shown great courage in their willingness to discuss recognizing Israel, knowing it is the only path to international acceptance and support and the only way to improve conditions for the Palestinian people. Hamas, on the other hand, is like the spoiled brat who won't play unless he gets his own way. Of course, it is so much easier for Hamas to fan the flames of irrational hatred. So much easier to hate Israel and blame the Jews for all the Palestinian's ills than it is to take responsibility for their own failures and buckle down to the hard work of becoming part of the world community. I don't know what we were thinking. Until Hamas lays down its weapons and hatred, or is forced to by Fatah, there is no future for Palestine or her people.

Hamas is a "one trick pony". If they cannot bash Israel, then what is their purpose? Well, it is obvious they have NONE!!!!!! Their leaders seem to have such a limited repertoire of political agenda that it completely boggles the mind. Let me let you in on a little secret. If Hamas were to drop their stance on Israel, then they would have to face the desperate poverty, homelessness, poor education, and helpless situation their people face. I don't think they have ANY idea what to do. So they have to stick to this mantra becuase it is the only thing that gives them a reason to exist. They are incapable of anything else. What amazes me is that Palestinians are so enamored of Hamas' rhetoric. But let's face facts. They are, becusae they have to blame someone for the sorry state they have let themselves get into. Let's face it no one wants to take responsibility for their own bad situation. It is so much easier and satisfying to live in denail and say it is someone elses fault. Becuase if it is someone elses fault then, By GOD, it is someone elses responsibility to clean up the mess. How much more whining from Palestininans should the world hav to put up with. These people have brought everything on themselves and have preferred to wallow in their shame and pity themselves for the raw deal they have been dealt instead of trying to make positive progress that would make their people happier and healthier. It is not just Hamas leadership that are the problem, it is the common Palestinian who supports them. But what can you do with a populace that has been trained for the last 60 years to blame everyone (Israel, the US, the west, Jordan, etc.) for problems of their own making. Becuase when you realize you are the one to blame, not anyone else, then you have to actually DO something. It is obvious that Palestinians do not want to have to DO anything but whine and complain and tell the world how badly they have been treated. Well, you know what? I spit on you! Take responsibility for your situation and then make things better for your people.

I second these responses. Hezbollah in Lebanon is simply the Hamas of the Lebanese and exactly the same. They have also beaten into their constitutents minds the fact that they are not resposible for thier own poverty, ignorance, and destitution.....Israel is. If it were not for Israel, Hexbollah would be blaming the northern Lebanese who have never really taken the people in the south of their country to be anything other than poor peasants. So what is we have here. It looks like Hamas and Hezbollah have adopted tried and true political means of gaining power and influence by convincing their victims that it is someone elses fault, not theirs that their lives are so hard and that no one takes them seriously or gives then any respect (something very important in Middle Eastern cultures). These two organizations are cut from the same cloth and infest different countries, but they are exactly the same in all other respects. Legitimate govenrments need so root these scoundrels and begin to pay more attention to these neglected parts of their countries where the populations feel that their only recourse to gaining political recognition is to welcome in murderous thugs and theives that prey on them, causing trouble for the main government and creating a tremendously destabilizing force in the country. It does not take a genius to realize this. Foreign governments also have to stop their financial support of these organizations and any humanitarian arms they may have set up. If a country really wants to help imporveished people or refugees in a place full of strife, they need to go through legitimate international aid organizations like from the UN or set up their own. Giving any aid or encouragement to either Hamas or Hezbollah or any other similar group prevents any healing or stability from happening.
